A Wild Experience: Ubon Ratchathani Zoo Brings the Animal Kingdom to School

Writer: Lisley SoaresLisley Soares

In a unique and exciting educational experience, students at the school were treated to a special visit from the Ubon Ratchathani Zoo, which brought along a fascinating collection of animals to share with the children. The event was a lively and engaging way to introduce students to the world of wildlife, teaching them about the diverse creatures that inhabit our planet while also fostering a sense of respect and curiosity for animals.

The event, held in the school’s spacious field, was eagerly anticipated by both students and teachers alike. The Ubon Ratchathani Zoo team brought a variety of animals, including a turtle and a snake, to offer the students an up-close encounter with some of the fascinating creatures that they might only read about in books or see on TV. The visit was not only a fun way for students to learn about animals but also a hands-on educational opportunity to gain deeper knowledge about wildlife conservation.

It started with an introduction by one of the zookeepers, who began by sharing interesting facts about the animals they brought along for the students to observe.

The first animal to be introduced was a large, gentle turtle, which immediately caught the students' attention. The zookeepers explained how turtles are known for their long lifespan and their important role in maintaining healthy aquatic ecosystems. They shared fascinating facts about the turtle’s habitat, diet, and behaviors, and students were encouraged to ask questions.

The excitement built as the next animal was introduced—an impressive snake. The students listened attentively as the zookeeper explained how snakes use their scales to glide smoothly across the ground, how they hunt for food, and the important role they play in controlling the populations of small animals. The snake, though initially intimidating to some, captivated the students with its sleek movements and unique appearance.

The highlight of the day was when the students were given the chance to interact with the animals. The zookeepers carefully demonstrated how to handle the turtle and snake, allowing students to gently touch them and ask more specific questions. The children were excited to learn firsthand how different animals feel and move, with many expressing their amazement at how soft the turtle’s skin was and how cool the snake’s body felt.

The interactive experience allowed students to engage directly with the animals, which helped them gain a better understanding of the creatures they were learning about. It also helped break down any fears or misconceptions about these animals, as the students were able to see their gentle nature and learn about their significance in the natural world.

The Ubon Ratchathani Zoo’s visit not only brought a piece of the animal kingdom to the school but also fostered a sense of responsibility in the next generation to care for and protect the creatures that share our planet.
